ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR HEALTH
Early detection of diseases such as retinal diseases, cancer, lung diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, heart diseases…is highly desirable. Our research goal is to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems that can detect early signs of the above diseases by analyzing biomedical data such as retinal images, skin images, chest X-Ray images, MRI images, ECG signals … |
Such AI systems can potentially be used as tools for (1) mass screening of diseases, (2) providing the second opinion to medical doctors and health workers. These AI systems can significantly increase people’s access to high-quality yet cost-effective healthcare, thus ultimately improving people’s health. |
Development of Artificial Intelligence for Diseases diagnosis |
Research goal: Develop an AI system that can automatically analyze biomedical signal and image and diagnose diseases. |

BIOMEDICAL PHOTONIC LAB IN BIOSIGNAL AND IMAGE PROCESSING |
Biophotonics can be described as the “development and application of optical techniques, particularly imaging, to the study of biological molecules, cells and tissue”. Biophotonics deal with the interaction between biological items and photons. This refers to emission, detection, absorption, reflection, modification, and creation of radiation from biomolecular, cells, tissues, organisms, and biomaterials. |
Utilizing the optical system analyzer to examine the interaction between the properties of light and the biology of biomaterial samples or animals in vitro and in vivo. |
BRAIN HEALTH LAB
Neural engineering (also known as neuroengineering) is a discipline within biomedical engineering that uses engineering techniques to understand, repair, replace, enhance, or otherwise exploit the properties of the nervous systems (brain and other parts). |
Our research group welcome all outstanding students with a passion for improving brain health and for science in general. We especially value those with the capacity to efficiently work in team as well as in individual settings, to be proactive, humble, creative and able to follow discipline. Besides the main research directions of the lab, we appreciate every student with their own neuroscience-related research or product-development ideas. |
Development of Systems & Methods for Neurodegenerative disease diagnosis and monitoring
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of neurodegeneration with no cure and has severe impact to patient’s life quality. More importantly, there is no available optimal method for diagnosing AD. Similarly, for most other neurodegenerative diseases, we also do not have any optimal diagnosis. With the rapidly aging population, Vietnam is facing with increasing incidence of neurodegenerative diseases. Research goals: (1) Develop simple, efficient, low-cost systems and methods to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s disease, such as Parkinson Disease or Vascular Dementia). (2) Investigate factors influencing disease progression. |
Development of Systems & Methods for evaluating and improving mental health
Mental disorders such as depression, anxiety or maniac disorders are highly common among teenagers, college students, working-age individuals as well as elderly people. However, in Vietnam, there are limited awareness about these disorders due to the lack of subjective, accurate and low-cost methods for diagnosis. In addition, even after receiving the diagnosis, patients are only prescribed with inefficient medications and not with other supportive therapies. |
